KY's Best Return on Investment: the Federal Government

Kentucky is among the states that get the best return when it comes to federal spending — a fact that has gone largely unmentioned in the current political debate over the size and scope of government.
Kentucky ranked 12th among the 50 states in overall federal spending per capita in fiscal 2009, according to the most recent data collected by the Census Bureau.
The commonwealth, its cities, towns and counties took in a total of more than $50 billion from Washington — an average of $11,592.63 for each of the state’s 4.3 million residents. The national average was $10,548.
