A statement has been issued by a student who said he was the youth “confronted by a Native American protestor” in a widely circulated video that provoked intense criticism of Covington Catholic High School over students’ treatment of the elder American Indian.

The backlash against the school was severe and continued Sunday. The Covington Diocese and the school have condemned the students’ behavior, apologized to the Native American and said they were investigating. The incident occurred in Washington D.C. where the students had traveled for a rally.

Nathan Phillips, the Native American standing opposite Sandmann in the video, gave his own account of the events in an interview with the Associated Press. 

The following is the complete statement issued by Nick Sandmann, a junior at Covington Catholic:

I am providing this factual account of what happened on Friday afternoon at the Lincoln Memorial to correct misinformation and outright lies being spread about my family and me. 

I am the student in the video who was confronted by the Native American protestor.

Rep. Thomas Massie came to the defense Sunday evening of the students from Covington Catholic High School who were involved in a confrontation with a Native American man this weekend in Washington, D.C.

The Kentucky's 4th District representative, which includes Northern Kentucky where Covington Catholic is located, tweeted that after watching "over an hour" of video on the incident, he believed the students were there participate in the March for Life and got a "brutal lesson in the unjust court of public opinion and social media mobs."

"I urge everyone to watch the other videos before passing judgement. Would you have remained that composed at that age under those circumstances?" he said on Twitter.

Massie added that it was his honor "to represent them."

Of course the MAGA bully was "composed"; he was the one committing the intimidation.

Details are unclear, but it appears that an entire class from a private, all male boys school (Covington Catholic High School in Covington, Kentucky) were the culprits. Apparently they were bussed in to attend the March for Life event, the same thing the Pences attended.

Native Twitter has gone ablaze as a Native American elder singing the AIM Song in Washington DC during the Indigenous Peoples March was ridiculed, taunted and mocked by a group of non-Native youth.

The video, which was posted by YouTube account holder KC NOLAND, was also screen captured and shared on other social media accounts with views shortly gaining tens of thousands of views.

The elder is Nathan Phillips, an Omaha elder who is also a Vietnam Veteran and former director of the Native Youth Alliance. He is also a keeper of a sacred pipe and holds an annual ceremony honoring Native American veterans in the Arlington National Cemetery.

Visitors in Kentucky’s Capitol Tuesday, the opening day of this year’s legislative session, found more security and less freedom to roam around the august building and its annex.

Republican Gov. Matt Bevin on Jan. 4 signed an emergency regulation outlining procedures for the state Finance and Administration Cabinet to implement to “protect the health, safety and welfare of visiting members of the public, as well as staff” in the two buildings and other state facilities and grounds.

“Over the years, public interest in and attendance of, the regular business of the Kentucky Legislature has steadily increased to the extent that concerns have arisen regarding the healthy, safety and welfare of visiting members of the public and staff,” said Bevin’s statement. “With a regular session of the Kentucky Legislature imminent, the provision of this administrative regulation should be given immediate effect.”

The Capitol and its grounds were flooded last spring with protesters upset with a public pension bill backed by Bevin and the Republican-controlled House and Senate. The legislature approved the bill but the Kentucky Supreme Court last month declared it unconstitutional.

Bevin’s move meant that Capitol visitors found more security checkpoints — especially in an underground tunnel between the Capitol and Capitol Annex — security officers, and areas where people can’t stand.

The Kentucky Democratic Party posted its opinion of the new rules on Facebook.

It showed a photo of three uniformed state police troopers standing at the bottom of the steps that lead to the state House and two more in front of the House chamber’s main entrance.

“The people are once again shut out,” said the post. “Sudden ‘new rules’ restrict access to general public all over the Capitol but especially near the House of Representatives with no notice and no rules changes vote.”

There also is a new “House Gallery Rules” sign with rules for visitors going to the gallery to watch the House in action.

Visitors to the state House gallery now see a sign on how they should behave.

House Minority Floor Leader Rocky Adkins, D-Sandy Hook, said he is concerned about Bevin’s emergency regulation and called it “too stringent.”

“I don’t think we need further and more strict access into the Capitol,” he said.

Adkins, who is running for governor this year, said he especially was concerned about restricting access to the tunnel between the Capitol and Annex.

“I think it’s more about making it tough for the general public to come and be a part of the process,” he said.

Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell and his wife, Secretary of Transportation Elaine Chao, were interrupted by a heckler who made a scene while the couple dined at a Cuban restaurant in Louisville Friday night.

TMZ first reported the confrontation Saturday morning, sharing a video that shows the man waving his arms and talking loudly, while McConnell sits silently in a booth, hands folded.

“Why don’t you get out of here,” the man can be heard saying, along with the statements, “Why don’t you leave our entire country alone?” and “they’re gonna come for Social Security.”

A woman behind the camera calls out, “Ditch Mitch!”

The Courier Journal reported that a man picked up McConnell’s leftovers and dumped them out on the sidewalk during the incident and that a woman in the restaurant “approached their table” and called McConnell a “traitor” before leaving.

Don't anybody go blaming Havana Rumba for trying to appeal to all of its customers.  As much as I'd love them - and all other Louisville restaurants - to ban repugs from the premises forever, it's not really good business practice.

A chanting, sign-waving and, in some cases, Amy McGrath t-shirt-wearing crowd packed the sidewalk at Triangle Park for the Kentucky for Decency Rally, organized by the Kentucky chapter of the National Organization for Women and the Bluegrass Activist Alliance.

McKayla Weaver, who helped organize the event, said she had been asked if the rally was an anti-Republican event.

“I told them that it was an anti-deceit rally,” she said. “...What everybody here is hoping to get is transparency from their elected officials. Kentucky deserves better. I’m here because I love Kentucky. They’re here to make money for their campaigns.”

Civility Never Won Anything

This of course included ACT-UP one of the bravest and most successful protest movements in American history. These are the actions that we should follow and emulate. Don’t listen to this civility garbage. It’s just a ploy by conservatives to stop the left from succeeding. The Only Answer is Abortion on Demand

We should have started massive protests back in 1976, when the Hyde Amendment barred using Medicaid funds for abortion.  And ramped them up in 1992, when the Supreme Court told freakazoids they could restrict abortion with bullshit laws.

We should have been screaming then that abortion is a civil and human right and none of your fucking business.

Instead we've treated abortion like a shameful special favor that women get only after abasing themselves and enduring humiliation.

The Orange Loser's Supreme Court nominee is going to kill abortion rights in this country.  Never mind just overturning Roe v. Wade; the anti-abortion motherfuckers are going after contraception, employment, and the right to vote.

Oh, not that explicitly of course. Every small step they make sound sooooo reasonable, until women can't move without permission.

Just to be clear, no previous Kentucky Governor has ever barred Kentuckians and their out-of-state guests from the Capitol.  That's because no previous Kentucky Governor, even the worst ones, threw temper tantrums of unconstitutional arrogance when anyone dared to disagree with them.

A national leader of the Poor People's Campaign told a group of anti-poverty protesters Wednesday that Kentucky's policy of limiting the group's access to the state Capitol must be challenged in court.

The Rev. William J. Barber, national co-chairman of the campaign, spoke outside the Capitol during his second trip to Frankfort this month to meet with protesters. He said a Kentucky State Police policy of allowing only two members of the group into the statehouse at a time is "an old tactic from civil rights days" and courts in his home state of North Carolina have ruled its Capitol Rotunda is a public place for protesters.

"We believe the same thing will happen here when it is tested under the law," said Barber. "If you let this stand, what is next?"

Pam McMichael, team coordinator for the Kentucky campaign, said the group is exploring "the appropriate legal steps to vindicate our group's right and those of all Kentuckians."

State police recently implemented the two-at-a-time policy when several members of the Poor People's Campaign blocked traffic near the Capitol and entered restricted property around the Governor's Mansion, according to State Police Commissioner Richard W. Sanders. He said the policy would not apply to demonstrators who follow all laws and regulations.

Those regulations include obtaining a state permit to assemble inside the Capitol.

Barber said the Kentucky Constitution says nothing about needing a permit to gather inside the Capitol. He said that policy was "a smokescreen" that Gov. Matt Bevin's administration "has fed to the media."

Anti-poverty activists were denied group access into Kentucky's Capitol on Monday following an outdoor rally where the nation's first work requirements for Medicaid were denounced.

About 400 people demonstrated in front of the statehouse, and many then marched to the front doors of the Capitol in hopes of entering. They were greeted by uniformed officers, and the group's leader was told only two demonstrators could enter at a time. When those two exited, another two would be allowed inside, rally members were told.

"So you're going to literally block us from our constitutional right?" asked the Rev. William Barber, co-chairman of the Poor People's Campaign, which helped organize the rally.

"Two at a time, sir," an officer replied.

That would be the Kentucky people's house.  The one we pay for. The one that is open to every single fucking one of us, no matter what nasty things we say about Gov. I Got Mine Fuck You.

A peaceful standoff ensued. The group chanted "let us in," prayed and sang a spiritual before moving from the front entrance. There were no arrests, and the activists vowed to return for another protest.

"That's not America," Barber said. "People who want health care, who are dying because they don't have it ... have a right to redress their government. This is a public building."

Once upon a time, quite recently, another Southern Governor got crossways with Rev. Barber, and lost re-election because of it.  Kentucky teachers and state employees are already guaranteeing Bevin's defeat next year, but politicians seeking higher office really should avoid annoying Barber.

In what has to rank among the worst ideas in the history of the National Football League—alongside decisions to cover up concussion research and ignore the issue of violence against women—NFL owners have come up with a new proposal to deal with players who protest police violence and racial inequity during the National Anthem. According to Sports Illustratedfootball scribe Albert Breer, “Per sources, one anthem idea being discussed: Leaving it up to home team on whether teams come out for the anthem; if teams do come out for the anthem, potential that teams could be assessed 15-yard penalties for kneeling.”

This idea is so terrible that one wonders if it was leaked by another owner as a way of preemptively humiliating whoever proposed it from ever uttering the notion again. One can only imagine an official saying, “Exercising of constitutional rights. On the kicking team. Fifteen-yard penalty. First down.” That the idea is almost The Onion–worthy is not the only reason why penalizing players for protest is a nonstarter. NFL players have had the space to protest during the anthem not out of the noblesse oblige of ownership but because it is enshrined in the Collective Bargaining Agreement with the union.

Constituent Calls Saved Solar Energy in Kentucky

No, they voted that way because activist groups like Kentuckians for the Commonwealth mobilized members and others to call their legislators and demand they reject this bill.  I tried to call; the message line was busy non-stop.

Pressure on legislators and elected officials - whether by phone calls or in-person protests - works.  Don't let anybody tell you it doesn't.

Kentucky lawmakers have killed a proposal that would have let utility companies pay less for the energy they purchase from solar customers.

 People with solar panels on their homes generate their own electricity. Sometimes they don't generate enough, so they buy power from the utility company. Sometimes they generate too much, and they sell power to the utility company.

Utility companies are required to buy the power at the same rate they sold it. House bill 227 would have let power companies pay less for the excess energy. Supporters said the bill would make the process fair. Opponents said the bill would kill the fledgling solar power industry in Kentucky.

The Kentucky Senate sent the bill back to committee on the final day of the legislative session.

Bevin: Protesting Teachers Caused Child Rape

Kentucky’s two largest school districts in Jefferson and Fayette counties were among 26 across the state that closed schools Friday after hundreds of school employees refused to work following the legislature’s passage of pension reform.
Fayette County District spokeswoman Lisa Deffendall said on Thursday night, more than 1,200 school employees reported they would be absent.

The news came after the state legislature passed a surprise pension-reform bill in Frankfort. At least 15 districts said they were closing because of teacher absences. About another 10 closed Friday morning without explanation. In addition, Breathitt County said it’s dismissing at 12 p.m. but gave no public explanation.

“After exhausting all means of positive protest such as, emailing, texting, calling, visiting Frankfort, having walk ins, pension forums, it was evident that drastic measures had to be taken for us to be heard,” said Fayette Education Association President Jessica Hiler . “Although closing school was not an option that we wanted for our students, they have no better advocate than their teachers and other public school employees. We have to be the voice for our students and that means we must continue to advocate for funding and resources needed to provide all students with a world class, 21st Century education.”

Deffendall said teachers at several schools were spending the morning packing food for their students living in poverty who wouldn’t otherwise be able to get meals provided by the school. 

"Lawmakers" gutted teachers' pensions in a secret, last-second move that violated state law requiring open discussion and an actuarial analysis.  Attorney General Andy Beshear vowed to file suit against the bill the instant Bevin signs it.

The governor's race next year is going to be about 14 Democratic candidates competing to be the one who hates Bevin the most.

Sleet Can't Stop Louisville March for Our Lives

It was the usual Kentucky disgusting March weather: sleet then rain but with winds that snatched umbrellas inside-out.  These marchers were defying the NRA; freezing rain was nothing.

Hundreds of teens and adults spent a rainy Saturday marching to feel safe in school.

“Not one more, not one more!”

“Kids not guns, kids not guns!”

Those were some of the chants heard as a crowd of hundreds of people marched their way downtown from Waterfront Park to Metro Hall. The student-led March for our Lives rally voiced it's concerns with gun laws after recent school shootings.

“It feels empowering,” said 15-year-old Rayna from Jeffersontown High School.

“We need to take control. If someone else isn't going to help then we have to do it ourselves,” said Rayya, an 8th grader at Meredith Dunn.

“You shouldn't have to be worried about getting shot while you're trying to learn,” U of L student Jared Showalter said.

“We're gonna make changes and no one else is gonna have to die,” said U of L student Sarah Duvall.

As the crowd made its way down Main Street, supporters cheered from windows above in agreement with this message:

“Hey, hey NRA how many kids have died today?” 

Yeah, of course there was an ammosexual saying stupid shit.  Losers.

KY Students: "We Stand With Florida"

Unfortunately, planned walkouts in Lexington and most other Central and Eastern Kentucky counties were mooted by school closings in the wake of two heavy snowstorms and associated flooding.

But Louisville students made the point: these kids are going to turn 18 before November, if they haven't already, and they're chomping at the bit to vote the NRA motherfuckers OUT.

Students at duPont Manual High School participated in the National School Walkout that happened across the country to protest gun violence.

Students from almost 3,000 schools were marking National Walkout Day, most by leaving their classrooms at 10 a.m. local times to show solidarity for the 17 killed in the Valentine's Day attack at Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School in Parkland, according to USA TODAY.

At duPont Manual students held a sign that said, "We Stand with Florida."

The walkouts were scheduled to start at 10 a.m. Wednesday. The walkouts were supposed to last 17 minutes to represent the victims of the Parkland, Fla. school shooting.

SKY11 also flew over Atherton High School on Wednesday. Multiple students participated there as well.

Some school districts in Kentuckiana did not allow students to take part in the National School Walkout but they were going to allow their students to voice their opinions in other ways.

Oldham County Schools were going to allow the students to voice their support during their EDGE Sessions on March 14.

Bullitt County Public Schools were also going to let students protest gun violence by other means.

Bullitt County Public Schools didn't feel it was safe for students to just walk out of the school, according to a letter the superintendent posted to Facebook on March 12. So principals were tasked with working with student leaders and advocates to find other means of protest like the following: writing letters, public service announcements, a moment of silence for those affected by violence, and random acts of kindness toward others.

Bullitt students surely already know their superintendent is a cowardly, lying motherfucker who doesn't give a shit about their safety but is terrified of losing his job.
