Open Season on KY Toddlers: 3 Shot Dead in 3 Weeks

But of course toddlers and children within a country mile of a gun are always in season.

A 2-year-old child died after being accidentally shot by a sibling Tuesday in Western Kentucky.

The Barren County sheriff’s office said they were called to the home of an Amish family on Buck Creek Road after the shooting at about 8:45 a.m.

“The children had been sent upstairs to get some items for their parent prior to the incident taking place,” the sheriff’s office said in a news release.

The sheriff’s office said the juvenile sibling had been handling a loaded rifle when the toddler was shot. The child was pronounced dead at the scene.

It was the third fatal shooting of a small child in Kentucky in less than a month.

On Friday, a 3-year-old Harlan County boy died after sustaining a gunshot wound to the head on his front porch in the Totz community.

 

A 2-year-old boy died Aug. 15 after shooting himself in the head in Louisville.

A Herald-Leader investigation last year found that at least 36 Kentucky children had accidentally shot themselves or another child over the previous five years.

Responsible Gun Ownership, Movie Theater Edition

Hey, he didn't even shoot.  They should either give him a medal or charge him with Failure to Fully Deploy His Second Amendment Rights

The McCracken County Attorney’s Office is considering charges in an altercation Saturday at the Cinemark Theater in Paducah that involved one man allegedly pulling a gun on another.

The police report released Monday, the Paducah Sun reports, said authorities are investigating charges against John Grabinski, 64, of Ozark, Ill., who reportedly pulled a gun on John Hempen, 38, of Paducah, during a fight that broke out during the showing of “Star Trek Beyond” around noon Saturday.

According to the report, Grabinski became angry during the movie because a 14-year-old sitting behind him was kicking his seat. He reportedly cursed the teen, prompting an argument with the teen’s father, Hempen.

The verbal altercation got physical when, according to the report, Grabinski became angrier and pushed Hempen. The men then began physically fighting when Grabinski was struck in the face and knocked to the ground.

When he got up, the report said he brandished a gun, saying to Hempen, “Now what the (expletive) you going to do?” Hempen answered, “Nothing. I’m good.” According to what Grabinski told police, he was “disoriented” when he got up and pulled his gun.

Kentucky law does not prohibit carrying a firearm into a movie theater. Cinemark, however, prohibits firearms in its theaters.

Only Gun Nuts Have Freedom

When someone carrying a semi-automatic rifle saunters into the restaurant where you're eating, or the office where you're working, do you feel more or less free?

All of this is allegedly being done to protect our freedoms. But it’s only the “freedom” of the person wearing a firearm that matters. Those parents who want their kids to feel safe in a public park aren’t free to tell a man waving a gun around to leave them alone, are they? Patrons and employees of Starbucks aren’t free to express their opinion of open carry laws when one of these demonstrations are taking place in the store. Those Jack in the Box employees aren’t free to refuse service to armed customers. Sure, they are all theoretically free to do those things. It’s their constitutional right just like it’s the constitutional right of these people to carry a gun. But in the real world, sane people do not confront armed men and women. They don’t argue with them over politics. They certainly do not put their kids in harm’s way in order to make a point. So when it comes right down to it, when you are in the presence of one of these armed citizens, you don’t really have any rights at all.  

You can see why they think that’s freedom. It is. For them. The rest of us just have to be very polite, keep our voices down and back away very slowly, saying, “Yes sir, whatever you say, sir,” and let them have their way.

But only if they're white. Blacks and browns get the SWAT team dropped on their ass.

And yes, that's terrorism.
