"Equal Right to Share at the Table of Life"
Every Independence Day, we remember that our fight is not new, that Democracy is never permanent, but must be won over and over again.
A century ago patriots faced seemingly all-powerful plutocrats running a nation devoted to corruption and war.
Their goals then were as familiar to the rebels of 1776 as they are to the Occupiers of 2012, as expressed by anarchist Emma Goldman in “A New Declaration of Independence”
. . . We hold these truths to be self-evident: that all human beings, irrespective of race, color, or sex, are born with the equal right to share at the table of life; that to secure this right, there must be established among men economic, social, and political freedom; . . . . . .
And for the support of this Declaration . . . the lovers of liberty joyfully consecrate their uncompromising devotion, their energy and intelligence, their solidarity and their lives.
