Matt Bevin Doesn't Know What the Fuck He's Doing, Part Four

To a certain extent, the Secretary of an executive Cabinet does not have to be an expert in the areas his cabinet oversees.  She's got professional staff for that. As long as she takes their advice seriously, she'll be fine.

But Public Protection is a different kettle of fish.

The Public Protection Cabinet and its employees touch the lives of many Kentucky citizens. If your money is deposited into a state bank or other financial institution, if you have ever watched a horse race, purchased an insurance policy or played a bingo game sponsored by a local charitable group, you have benefited from our work. If you have ever appealed a property tax assessment or applied for a building permit, you have dealt with one of our agencies.
Public Protection does exactly what it says. It protects people.  All people. With government regulation. From fraudulent businesses. So of course Bevin appointed a businessman to run it.

Jack Brammer at the Herald:
Gov. Matt Bevin continued making appointments Monday to his new administration, naming former Barren County Judge-Executive David A. Dickerson to be secretary of the Public Protection Cabinet and former Lexmark official Daniel Bork to be commissioner of the Department of Revenue.

Dickerson was Barren County’s chief official from 1994 to 1999. He most recently was corporate officer for his family business, Dickerson Lumber Company.
Destroying a government agency's ability to do its job protecting the people is easy: just slash its budget to nothing.  Keep an eye on the budget Bevin sends to the legislature the first week of January.  That will reveal his real plans.

Congratulations again, Kentucky voters, for electing someone who hates government to run your, you know, government.
