No, The Gooch never voted Democratic - except, as Joe Gerth noted, for House Speaker, when it really counted - but his defection means that state House dems are one seat away from losing the chamber they've held for almost a century.

FRANKFORT, Ky. - State Rep. Jim Gooch, of Providence, released a statement Monday saying he is switching from the Democratic to the Republican Party.

The makeup of the Kentucky House is now 50 Democrats, 48 Republicans.

And when the repugs take over all of state government - probably sometime this week - it's the Randian Paradise of Kansas for us.  Nuke us now, please.
