Do NOT Mess With the Mermaids

I love New York.

June 19, 2010: The annual Mermaid Parade is held on Coney Island in New York City. The parade has been an annual tradition since 1983, and participants typically dress up as sea creatures -- "mythical and real" -- to celebrate the beginning of summer. This year, some took the opportunity to draw attention to Gulf Coast marine life that is endangered because of the BP oil spill.
