Don't Say the Pledge

Did you know it originally came with a stiff-arm salute like the Nazis? That it dates only from 1982, not 1776?  That it celebrated the 400th anniversary of Columbus' arrival the start of the Great American Genocide? That it was promoted by a magazine marketer as a way to instill patriotism brainwash children and sell flags? That it is probably right now being copied by ISIS motherfuckers because it just fits their mindset so perfectly?

PZ Myers:

It is true that the American Humanists have launched a campaign to get the discriminatory religious message out of the pledge (I’m all for getting rid of it altogether — why do we make kids recite a loyalty oath?), but it seems to me like a fairly calm, rational argument that they are making.
