Doing FDR One Better - Not for the Last Time

In 1933, FDR became the first president to incorporate a relatively new technology to communicate directly with the American people.

In 75 years, including 60 years of televised speeches, press conferences and photo ops, and even Reagan's 1981 establishment of the weekly radio address, no president has improved on the direct simplicity of FDR's Fireside Chats on the radio.

Until today.

Barack Obama has posted the first of his weekly YouTube addresses to the nation, a modern-day replacement of the old-fashioned weekly radio addresses. In this one, Obama urges immediate Congressional action on the economy:

For us elderly luddites who haven't quite mastered the U-Toobz, Obama's video talks will also be broadcast on radio.

The following companies gave money to Mitch McConnell in 2008. I suggest everyone who wants to stop filibusters in the Senate, call these contributors and say. Either you convince McConnel to end filibusters in the Senate or we will not buy your products any longer. Also call McConnell's office and tell him that if he does not stop filibusters, his (friends) contributors will go down the tubes with consumer boycotts. Republicans mainly understand loss of money. You have buying power. Use it to stop McConnell.

Brown-Forman Corp $48,200 Maker of Jack Daniels whiskey and Bolla Wines. They have their headqurters in Kentucky.
General Electric $39,600 Maker of electrical consumer products. GE has an office in Lousiville.
FedEx Corp $37,400 Shipping of packages. Call local Fedex offices in Kentucky.

If you don't do this then you have only yourself to blame if Mitch Blocks good progressive legislation.

Good ideas all three, Cratz. But Brown-Forman is the easiest of the three. I used to drink no other whiskey but JD, but in the past year, their prices have increased disgustingly - for instance, their 1.75L bottle that sold as recently as a year or so ago for about $36.00 or so, is now going at my local liquor store for over $51.00. By my reckoning, that's about a 35-40% increase in only a year, and thus easier to boycott. ;-)

Enlightened self-interest is OK for motivation sometimes, isn't it? ;-)
