The GOP in a dirty wife-beater
Two weeks ago on Olbermann, Janeane Garofalo explained the incoherence of the teabaggers as a combination of sublimated racism and frontal-lobe damage from swollen reptile brain stems.
Bill Maher takes the metaphor a step further.
If conservatives don't want to be seen as bitter people who cling to their guns and religion and anti-immigrant sentiments, they should stop being bitter and clinging to their guns, religion and anti-immigrant sentiments.

Look, I get it, "real America." After an eight-year run of controlling the White House, Congress and the Supreme Court, this latest election has you feeling like a rejected husband. You've come home to find your things out on the front lawn -- or at least more things than you usually keep out on the front lawn. You're not ready to let go, but the country you love is moving on. And now you want to call it a whore and key its car.
That's what you are, the bitter divorced guy whose country has left him -- obsessing over it, haranguing it, blubbering one minute about how much you love it and vowing the next that if you cannot have it, nobody will.
But it's been almost 100 days, and your country is not coming back to you. She's found somebody new. And it's a black guy.

Yeah, some men do that sort of thing when a woman/country leaves them. Others, Democrats mostly, just pine away for them, and try to email them with entreaties to come back, etc. etc.
And neither way works in any real sense. The woman/country still leaves, and stays gone.
And the man's heart is broken. The Republican gets mad, and keys the car or waits in the bushes for her some night. The Democrat just folds into a little puddle of self-pity, and hopes she'll come back for a really long time. To no avail, 99 times out of 100.
And that's why the last 8 years happened.
And why the last 3.5 years happened, too.
Trust me, I know these things.
The Republicans are hopeless and will never learn. They're out now trying to rebuild their "image" which is just another superficial attempt to try to fool voters with more of the same old for-the-rich-and-corporations-only bullshit. I predict this time they will die. What they need, and the voters know it, is not a new image, but a substantial change in direction, which they will not do. As for the Dems, they need to quit pussyfooting around trying to please Wall Street and return to the truly progressive party they were in the '30s and '60s, instead of trying to just be "Republican Lite." TAX THE RICH! FEED THE POOR! RAISE THE MIDDLE CLASS!
