Kentucky Cuts $70,000 from Blind Children; Still Handing $40 Million to Freakazoid Morons

No, Kentucky's governor is not a republican; why do you ask?

From the Courier:

Kentucky has sharply reduced funds to a non-profit organization that serves young blind children across the state, a move advocates say will limit much-needed services to families.

The cuts involve state money that the Louisville-based Visually Impaired Preschool Services, or VIPS, uses to send teachers into the homes of children through age three who are considered legally blind and whose families need assistance with skills meant to help them learn.

“The impact is that we won't be able to serve them as often,” said Diane Nelson, the program's executive director. “It's so sad.”

Dr. Steve Davis, the state Department of Public Health official who oversees VIPS funding, said the decision to cut the program was “gut-wrenching.” But he said he is being forced to manage repeated cuts in overall public health funding because of tight state budgets.

SNIP

Over the past three budget years, state funds to VIPS have been cut — from $80,000 three years ago to $40,000 last year. This year VIPS will get only $10,000 in state money under the contract that began earlier this month

But hey, eliminating the social safety net is all the rage.

Liberals prefer to spend tax dollars helping real, live blind children than enriching the promoter of a mythology that intellectually abuses children.
